ThermoSeal products meet or exceed the certifications required by the International Building Code, International Residential Code, and IECC.
ThermoSeal 500 and 800 hold IAPMO Evaluation Report ER-0603, certifying compliance with IRC, IBC, and IECC air barrier requirements. Air impermeable per Section 101 of ICC-ES AC377.
ThermoSeal HFO and 5G hold IAPMO ER-0698 and ER-0968, certifying ASTM C 1029 Type II performance, flame spread Class 1, and compliance with IBC and IRC.
ThermoSeal 5G is NFPA 285 compliant for use in exterior wall assemblies on Type I–IV buildings of any height with brick, metal, or aluminum cladding per 2015/2018/2021 IBC.
ThermoSeal HFO and 5G are approved for use without a prescriptive ignition barrier in unvented attic and crawl space applications per ICC-ES AC377 Appendix X, simplifying attic assemblies.
ThermoSeal HFO is rated for 286 mph wind uplift tested per UL 1897 and ASTM E 330, qualifying for IBHS Fortified Home roof assemblies in high-wind zones.
All ThermoSeal closed cell products meet or exceed ASTM C 1029 Type II requirements for core density, compressive strength, water vapor transmission, and dimensional stability.
Critical product distinctions and performance characteristics to factor into your specifications.
Only ThermoSeal 5G carries NFPA 285 approval. When specifying closed cell foam for commercial exterior wall assemblies (Type I–IV, any height), ThermoSeal 5G must be selected. ThermoSeal HFO is not suitable for NFPA 285 applications.
ThermoSeal HFO reaches 0.86 perms at just 1.37" (ASTM E 96), classifying it as a Class II vapor retarder per IRC Section R702.7 at typical application thicknesses. This eliminates the need for a separate poly vapor barrier in most climate zones.
ThermoSeal HFO may be left exposed (without an ignition barrier) in unvented attics and crawl spaces per ICC-ES AC377 Appendix X. A thermal barrier (1/2" drywall) is still required in occupied spaces per IBC/IRC.
ThermoSeal closed cell foam reaches only 185–200°F exotherm at 2" passes, significantly lower than competitor products. This reduces thermal stress on sensitive substrates and allows safer application near vapor-sensitive membranes.
Both open cell (water blown) and closed cell (Forane 1233zd HFO) ThermoSeal products carry a Global Warming Potential of 1, compliant with green building standards including LEED and ENERGY STAR. No ozone-depleting substances in any formulation.
ThermoSeal closed cell foam adds measurable racking strength to wall assemblies. Compressive strength of 27.43–29.5 PSI and tensile strength of 48.64–56.8 PSI provide structural reinforcement that can reduce requirements for additional sheathing in some applications.
